Lenovo ThinkPad X

Lenovo's ThinkPad X is a convertible tablet PC in an ultraportable format, offering professional users a system that can capture pen input or be used just like a standard laptop as necessary. The X is slightly larger. mainly to accommodate the swivelling hinge that allows the screen to twist 180 degrees and fold back over the keyboard. enabling the system to operate as a slate-mode device.

This model has the typical ThinkPad high quality build, and packs a decent amount of processing power into a relatively small format. However. tablet systems are intended to be used in a different way from laptops and, at 715gm. the X could quickly become tiring to hold while using it in slate mode, especially when compared to some dedicated slate devices.

The X’s main body frame is longer back to front than the laptop version, which leads to the screen lid being slightly larger. The extra space is put to good USe fitting in more controls below the display so that they are accessible when the screen is flipped into slate mode. There are four physical buttons which acts as auto rotate on/off, web browser, back, and home respectively.

Thinkpad has chosen wise array of ports and slots. Along with 3.5mm audio out there are mini HDMI out, rnicroUSB, docking port and a fill sized USB port to connect your flash drives directly to the device. For greater convenience Lenovo has featured a tile copy app which allows you to transfer data between tablet and external HDD.

It supports the standard 1200 x 800 resolution, and is better protected against damage by a Corning Gorilla Glass overlay. During our test, image quality remained sharp, retaining optimum colours, viewing angle is good too Surprisingly the audio is a big letdown. The single speaker is placed in such a position which can be easily obstructed when the device is on your lap.

X is powered with Android3.1 aka HoneyComb. The home screen sports Lenovo made launcher which helps you to watch, listen, read or browse. There is an option to change their behaviour too. Lenovo has also added a stylus, which has to be purchased separately. However its a must have if you want the best out of this tablet. It is pressure sensitive and easy to hold. The stylus helps you to write notes, draw pictures or simply hang around the device. The MyScript note app allows you to write notes with a reasonable accuracy. This app also allows you to share documents via email either.

The review unit was based on an NVidia Tegra 2 CPU along with 1GB of memory. The performance remained subtle while playing Videos or surfing around the web. The manufacturer claimed it can provide 8.5 hours of battery tile but in real life test we got almost 4.5 hours when connected with Wi Fi.

Lenovo Thinkpad is more of a professional tablet and might be good in demand with the security and IT department professionals. The built quality, performance and security features can vouch any user who trusts on Thinkpad.
