Toshiba AT200

Toshiba’s third tablet is billed as the thinnest 10in slate in the world - and at just 7.7mm deep it makes the new iPad look porky. But there’s more to Stuffs tablet tests than whipping out the calipers. Here’s the real skinny on the dual-core Android Honeycomb- running AT 200.
The AT200 may be 1.7mm thinner than the Pad, but it’s also cut like a block rather than tapering at the edges, which actually makes it feel larger than many rivals. That said, unlike the Pad and Samsung Galaxy Tab
10.1, it has both HDMI-out and a USB port. The brushed aluminium back also lends it a classy feel.

With a dual-core 1.2GHz processor running the show, the AT200 is fairly snappy, but it lags far behind the quad-core Tegra 3 in Asus’ Transformer Prime. Battery life is also disappointing lasting just five and a half hours in video run-down test.

Screen 10.1in, 1280x800 TN LCD
CPU DuaI-core 1.2GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4430
Storage 16GB (32GB available)
Networking Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Wi-Fi
Connectivity 3.5mm socket/mic, microUSB, microHDMI, microSD
Battery 8hrs (claimedi) 5.5hrs (video, tested)

The lack of ice Cream Sandwich here is a disappointment and an upgrade date is yet to be confirmed. Still, the AT200 does come with a useful selection of software: ThinkFree Office is a top Android productivity suite, and the slick media player also handles UPnP sharing duties.

The 5MP rear camera on the AT200 takes decent snaps. but its 720p videos are a little jerky and it lacks a built-in flash. The good news is that the far more important front-facing camera is excellent. Its a 2MP affair, so make sure you exfoliate properly before you Skype mum and dad.

The Tosh’s 1280x800 resolution is standard for 10.1 tabs running Android 3.2, but in other respects its screen is well below par. Rather than the rich colours and wide viewing angles found in rivals’ PS displays. the Toshiba has to make do with a much paler TN LCD affair
