The impressive HTC One X has had its kinks and knots Ironed out returning with added grunt. speed and stamina. So is it now special enough to replace the Samsung Galaxy S III as top Android?
The One X+ keeps the curvy good looks of the original then wraps them up in a matte black, soft rubber-like finish which makes it easier to grip. More importantly, it’s still 8.9mm thin and only 5g heavier despite a bigger battery. Sith Lord-friendly red accents add to the premium vibe.
Nvidia’s quad-core Tegra 3 silicon has been beefed-up from 1.5 to 1.7GHZ with a GPU boost to boot. In the real world, Android is buttery smooth, with silky gameplay that’s as fluid as the S III. if sometimes a millisecond slower. Blistering webpage load times and nippy orientation-switching don’t hurt either, with black patches rare.
HTC hasn’t messed with the One X’s beautiful 4.7in 1280x720 display, and with good reason — its one of the best smartphone screens we’ve eyes on Whether you’re watching movies or working with photos,
whites are bright and colours punchy, but never over-saturated.
Another unchanged feature is the HTC’s camera- a super-fast 8MP affair with a light-guzzling f/2.0 lens. Burst mode, 1080p video and picture- in-video all perform brilliantly and the 1.6MP front facer is great for video calls. But for all that, the S Ill still takes better pictures overall.
The One X+ wields Jelly Bean 4.1 out of the box, a step behind the latest OS but still rocking live updates via Google Now and an upgraded Sense UI with self-portrait camera mode. It lacks an SD slot, but internal storage has been boosted to 64GB, and the battery is now good for an S III-rivalling 7hrs.
