Lenovo Ideacentre A720

Launched in April shortly after Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors, the IdeaCentre A720 has the largest display of the trio, with its massive 27-inch full HD LED-back lit touchscreen. Aesthetically, the IdeaCentre A720 is modern and chic. Like the Acer and ASUS AIOs, the IdeaCentre A720 is simple and elegant design-wise. However, unlike the two who have their components integrated into and behind the display, Lenovo has decided to build the components into the stand’s base, thus leaving the display as thin as possible. The stand is also the most flexible of the trio. It adjusts for both height and tilt, while allowing the IdeaCentre A720 to be folded completely flat for quick transport to group activities such as LAN parties.

Back to the 27-inch display, the IdeaCentre A720 is also unique because unlike the ASUS and Acer AIOs which are capable of recognizing only up to two points of touch, Lenovo trumps them with a capacitive screen capable of recognizing up to 10 points of simultaneous touch. This is unusual because capacitive panels are rarely this large due to cost, which typically increase exponentially with size. Thanks to its capacitive panel, the IdeaCentre A720 has the most fluid and accurate touchscreen tracking. To fully capitalize on this, the IdeaCentre A720 comes bundled with a selection of touchscreen-enabled games like Air Hockey, Fruit Ninja and Piano, making it great for family fun.

The large full HD LED-backlit display is ideal for watching TV and movies as Lenovo has fitted the IdeaCentre A720 with an integrated TV tuner and a B lu-ray drive. It also accepts HDMI signals, which means, like the ASUS and Acer AIOs, it can also double up as a regular display when hooked up to a gaming console, for example. The IdeaCentre A720 sports a quad-core Intel Core i7-3610QM processor that runs on lower clock speeds and has a smaller 6MB L3 cache, as compared to the Core i7-3770S processor found in the Acer and ASUS AIOs. However, the IdeaCentre A720 does come with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GT630 discrete graphics processor.

The IdeaCentre A720 really loses out in storage capacity with its 7 50GB HDD, while the ASUS and Acer AIOs have 2TB HDDs. The Lenovo AIO’s smaller hard drive allows it to remain svelte but with no means to upgrade its components, a larger hard drive would have been welcome.

All in all, considering the large display, bundled games, as well as the integrated TV tuner and Blur ay player, the IdeaCentre A720 is certainly geared for family entertainment.
